A major artist was commissioned to create the horse with the durable resin blend cast. The artistic community in the southwest was contacted, inviting both famous and new artists to submit a design for the horses, and the response was overwhelming. These ponies were rounded up and sold through various means such Internet auctions and direct negotiations in the fall of 2001. Not only is paint used as a medium for these painted creatures, iron works, wood and even pottery are attached into the costuming. In 2001, artist George Monfils even used individual seed beads on one of the horses. After the auctions of 2002, Westland Giftware began crafting the painted ponies figurines for various charities and creating the hottest collectible in America. Today, these ponies help raise funds to nonprofit organizations in need and spreading the beauty of the ponies everywhere.
